Bathing Aids
mobility ideasOne of the simplest bathing aids you can get is a bath step. This simply sits by the side of the bath and provides a way to make the distance between the bath and the floor much shorter. This would be ideal if you have trouble bending your knees, for example.
Other aids are also very simple but effective in their design. You may have no trouble getting in or out of your bath, but when it comes to washing you may have difficulty. Long handled sponges or cleaners are ideal for this. You don’t have to twist or reach around as much as you normally would. You can even clean your toes and feet without leaning right forward!
Other bathing aids include bath lifts and seats. These enable you to sit down before you get in the bath, as the seat swings round easily before lowering you safely and slowly into the water. Some of these types of items can enable you to safely bathe alone instead of requiring help from others. As such they can help you maintain your independence in a way you wouldn’t be able to do otherwise.
Another aid that many people don’t consider as such is equally simple. There are plenty of rails of all different types and sizes that can be affixed to the wall next to the bath. These make it much easier to lift yourself in and out, and provide more stability and confidence too.
The key aspect is to consider how much help you need in your situation. There are plenty of bathing aids available as we now know – all you have to do is consider what you find difficult and plan your bathroom accordingly. Even one or two extra aids could make all the difference to being able to bathe easily and comfortably every single time.
