Electric Wheelchairs
mobility ideasThis is why it is important to make sure the right chair is selected. Everyone has different needs and while one model may suit one person, it may be entirely unsuitable for another. And of course, cost may also be a factor in making the final decision.
Electric wheelchairs have distinct advantages over those that are manually operated. The strength of the user is very much a factor for a manual chair, whereas an electric one can be operated simply by using the on board controls. These usually take the form of a joystick. For those people who do not have the strength to wheel themselves round in a manual chair, the electric one can be a real lifeline for them.
Some people find that having both types of chair is the best solution for them. This is particularly the case if they are out and about frequently and cover more distance than they would feel comfortable with in a manual chair. Electric wheelchairs can enable users to go further than they would be able to otherwise.
Of course, there is a wide range of different chairs available. Each one is designed to give the maximum degree of comfort and manoeuvrability to the user. The price will also vary widely, and you can save a lot simply by shopping around.
Another aspect to consider is the wheelbase of each particular chair. Generally speaking, the shorter the wheelbase, the easier the chair will be to turn. It will also be able to turn in a smaller amount of space, which will often be more convenient. This will make it easier for the user to navigate their way around.
Electric wheelchairs may be the only practical choice for some people. The design may vary to accommodate reclining seat backs to make them more comfortable for people who use them all the time. Indeed, the wide range on sale varies from the simply designed to the more involved, depending on the degree of comfort required.
