The purpose of Canine Partners is to assist people with disabilities to enjoy a greater independence and a better quality of life and, where possible, to help them into education and employment, through the provision of specially trained dogs, whose well-being is a key consideration.
Canine Partners is incorporated under the Companies Act 1985 and is a company limited by guarantee and not having a share capital. The Charity was formed on 27 June 1990 as Assistance Dogs for Disabled People. The name was later changed to Canine Partners, which is a registered Charity.
At Canine Partners, we train dogs to help transform the lives of people with physical disabilities, most of whom are wheelchair users. Our Partners live with a variety of different disabling conditions, some of which are from birth and others have been acquired during their lifetime. Each Partner has different levels of ability and as such different needs.
We train our dogs to respond to a wide range of commands, enabling them to carry out a vast number of tasks for their Partner and all applicants individual needs are taken into consideration when the 'matching' process takes place.
