Motability Scheme

mobility ideas
It has been in effect for over thirty years, and it has enabled many disabled people to get moving on a regular basis. The Motability scheme has been nothing short of a success, and it has given a lot of people a lot of freedom as a result.

Some disabled people find that they become more or less confined to their homes if they aren’t careful. If they use a wheelchair they might find it too difficult to go out alone, even in a motorised one. But if they have a car their ‘reach’ – the distance they can travel on their own – becomes so much larger.

Suddenly, instead of everyone coming to see them, they can go out and about more often and do more as a result. And even if they themselves cannot drive, provided they have a nominated driver or two the Motability scheme can work just as well for them.

For some disabled people, receiving this degree of help from the scheme is a lifeline. It makes a car – which let’s face it is a very expensive item – accessible. There is also a wide range of cars available, including a selection of automatic ones for people who cannot drive a manual for whatever reason. And the scheme is continually being improved as well. While some of the bigger cars do require an advance payment before you can drive off in them, there is a significant range of vehicles that don’t require any money down at all.

This factor alone makes the scheme a realistic possibility for many people. The Motability scheme can make all the difference between getting out and about as you would like to, and simply going from day to day. It is the positive effects that come out of the scheme that are even more beneficial than the scheme itself, in many ways.

Lots of disabled people would testify to the fact that their lives are completely different since joining the scheme. And with more advantages and improvements being added all the time, it can only get better. Perhaps it’s time you discovered whether you could benefit too?
