Products for the Deaf

When you cannot hear very well – or even not at all – normal everyday things become more problematic. For example, most people know that if they have a smoke alarm the sound of it going off would alert them. But if you were deaf that would not be the case.

Quite often, products for the deaf rely on some kind of visual aid to give the same signal other people would get audibly. So for example you may have a doorbell that has a separate lamp which flashes when someone rings the bell. As soon as you see it flashing you know there is someone waiting at the door.

These gadgets are invaluable if you have trouble hearing. But what about situations where you wouldn’t normally be able to see a signal? A typical example would be if you were asleep and needed to be woken at a specific time. In this case a standard alarm clock would be no good.

But some companies have devised an alarm clock which works by vibrating your pillow. All you need to do is set it as normal, strap it into place and then when the time comes round it vibrates to wake you up. Products for the deaf like this are ideal for maintaining a normal life.

As you can see, for deaf people the idea is to buy items that alert them to something via sight or by touch. Baby monitors work in exactly the same way. They attach to your belt and either vibrate or give off a flashing light, so you will know when your baby needs you. This method can be applied to many different items in order to make life easier.

You can even get a vibrating watch to tell you when it is time to do something. And the great thing is that it looks just like any other watch – it’s just more useful and discreet!

Products for the deaf fall into many different categories. All you need to do is decide what you need the most, and then buy what you need
