Respite Care
mobility ideasFor example, if you care for another person your day may begin before theirs does. You may need to get up and start doing things early, and then help them to get up and get dressed. And then you may need to be with them for the whole day, working until after they go to bed.
That is why respite care is provided – and it can be a real lifeline to many carers who are otherwise alone when it comes to looking after someone who needs it. This type of care provides the carer with a chance to have a break in some way.
Sometimes it may involve the person you are caring for going to a day centre once a week. This gives you some time off each week to look forward to and to do other things in, perhaps seeing friends and relatives for example, or doing some shopping.
Respite care can also make it possible for you to have a longer break from time to time. Many carers will attest to the fact that it is a tiring and draining job – and one where you will benefit greatly if you can have a holiday. This can be made possible if the person you care for takes a short break themselves and stays in a residential or nursing home for a week or two while you are away.
In this sense it is vital for both parties to take a break in order for the relationship to keep thriving. Caring is definitely a full time job and as such it can really be demanding and stressful for the person doing it. Respite care means you can get the break you need and come back ready to get started again.
It is vital to find out all about the various possibilities there are for getting help in this manner. By doing so, the
day to day caring can be a lot easier to manage.
