Walking Aids
mobility ideasBut no matter what the reason might be for finding something to help you, you will be pleased to know that there are plenty of walking aids available to choose from.
One of the most commonly used items you will find is a walking stick. This is ideal if you have an injury or weakness in one leg, but not both legs. You can ease the amount of weight you put on your leg while still using it to a certain degree. If you are trying to build up some strength, you can really benefit from using this type of aid.
Another alternative you have if you are recovering from an injury and need to keep your weight off one leg entirely is using crutches. Walking aids such as these are a good way to get back on your feet while still having some limited movement.
If you don’t feel stable enough using either of the above methods you can try a walking frame if you wish. This gives you more stability since you can lean forwards onto the frame and put your weight onto it if need be. This fact alone can enable you to have more confidence in moving around that you might not have if you were simply using a stick or a pair of crutches.
Finally there is a piece of equipment known as a walking rollator. Unlike a walking frame these have wheels at each point that comes into contact with the floor. There are generally three large sized ones – one at the front and two at the rear, one on either side of where you stand. They also have brakes to aid stability.
To get the best of the choice of walking aids, think about why you will use it and how often they might be needed. Then you can make your purchase with confidence.
